1975 Château Montrose - The slightly lower level and age clearly showed in the color, a dark mahogany that didn’t forecast a lively, vibrant wine. First impressions were cloves and some vegetal tones like geranium, shortly after followed by venison with a tinge of perfume I can only describe as grandmother’s fur coat. This wine had a sharp acidity at first which mellowed out a bit later on without disappearing completely, unfortunately a hollow mid-section and a very tough and dry finish, not uncommon for 75’s.
A bottle in perfect condition probably would have performed better though - I fear the toughness would still be there.
